Building Envelopes Fabrication

To ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency, commercial buildings must meet exact specifications. A critical component of a building’s structure is a sturdy building envelope. ASM offers building envelope solutions that meet the quality and code requirements of your project.

Building envelope components form a barrier between the exterior and interior environments, protecting the occupants of the structure from outside temperatures and weather conditions. Several layers of materials form the barrier, including insulation, vapor control, and air barriers.

Fabricating Building Envelope Components

Building envelope components consist of metal fabricated parts such as bracing, support structures, brackets, and tubing that can help with insulation clips, stainless steel plate panels, and aluminum and copper panels. Building enclosure systems come in two categories: tight and loose. A tight envelope allows for few air leaks, whereas loose envelopes allow for more natural ventilation.

Structural support, climate control, and finish must be considered when fabricating components. The envelope is essentially your building’s shell, including the foundation, exterior walls, and the building facade systems. To ensure high-quality components, ASM utilizes advanced manufacturing software, including 3D modeling, to create metal parts to our clients’ specifications.

Choosing Building Envelope Materials

When selecting materials for the building envelope, consider the durability of the products. Solutions should be able to resist wear and tear, along with UV, wind, and rain damage.

  • Galvanized steel: Durable and corrosion-resistant steel coated in molten zinc with a life expectancy of more than 50 years in an average environment.
  • Cold-rolled steel: Durable steel that goes through a range of processing services to create a more robust, more rigid steel.
  • Stainless steel: A corrosion-resistant material known for its high impact resistance, sustainability, and versatility.
  • Spring steel: Hard steel that can support heavy loads but has enough elasticity for manufacturers to shape and form.
  • Aluminum: A high-performance, lightweight metal with a reduced environmental impact and cost-effectiveness.
  • Copper: Lightweight, low-maintenance metal with minimal movement due to thermal changes.

Additionally, ASM offers specialty metals and a variety of finishes, including:

  • Powder
  • Galvanized
  • Pre-finished
  • Chrome plated
  • Electroplate
  • Hot-dipped galvanized

We use Division 7 Metals in most of our metal fabrication. Division 7 Metals is a leader in designing, fabricating, and installing architectural systems and sheet metals. For stainless steel, we provide both 300 and 400-grade metal.
